Detroit CMB – Anthony Johnson hit a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning to break a 6-6 tie and end the game, Sam Lilly singled in the first and Terry Hall singled in the 3rd inning for the other CMB hits.
JNC – Corey Essenberg had 2 hits with a triple, singles by Mike Evans, Al Stallard, Rob Boss and Denzel Wilson.
Notes:  Anthony Johnson’s walk off homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning brought a dramatic finish to a game where Ray Argetsinger from JNC threw a 3 hitter.

Notes:  Clayton McGovern came out of retirement of the past 4 years that saw him inducted into the MASA Hall of Fame in 2004.

Notes:    This was Darren VanderArk’s first career no-hitter.  JNC left runners at 2nd and 3rd in the 1st inning, runner at 3rd in the 3rd inning and 6th inning, scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 outs and the game ended with runners on 2nd and 3rd base.

Notes:  One hour and 15 minute rain delay after 4 ½ innings played due to a thunderstorm moving through the area.  Detroit scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to avoid a mercy and then added one in the 7th.

Notes:  In the top of the 5th inning, Trophy Case was behind 7-3 when Matt Hall, Scott Kelly and Bill Alward hit consecutive homeruns to tie the game.  In the bottom of the 6th, Terry Beougher from M-46ers hit a 2 run homerun to take a 9-7 lead.  In the top of the 7th with 2 outs, Trophy Case had 3 consecutive singles to load the bases and then scored 2 runs on a dropped infield pop up to tie the game.  In the bottom of the 7th, Jason Lajoice led off with a double and scored the game winner on a single by Keith Green.

Notes:  Jeff Hoover threw a one hitter with only 5 batters reaching base, one runner reached second base in the 2nd due to 2 walks.

CommuniQuest – Timm Richardson tripled, Steve O’Keefe doubled, singles by Mike Hoon, Darren Haut, David O’Keefe and Robin Allen.
Notes:  Tiffany’s trailed 4-1 after 4 ½ innings, scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th to make it 4-3 and then with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, Dale Doughty homered to tie the game and send it into extra innings with the international tie breaker beginning in the 8th inning.  Each team scored one in the 8th, CommuniQuest failed to score in the top of the 9th, Tiffany’s sacrificed the runner to 3rd base and with one out, they walked the bases full to get the force out at home.  Rich Katherns hit a fly ball into the outfield that was deep enough for the sacrifice; however it was dropped in an attempt to throw to home and the winning run scored.

35th Annual Holiday Invitational started by Ed White in 1970 and later renamed as the Rex Marquardt Memorial – Rex was a long time Tournament Director at Ed White Field with Ed and Dick Harbaugh – Rex and Dick were inducted into the MASA Hall of Fame in 2002 for their many years of service and in helping to build the reputation for tournament softball in Petoskey as one of the best.

Notes:  Driving School scored 1 run in the bottom of the first when lead off hitter Todd Moore reached base on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out and scored on Jason Hill’s sacrifice fly.  DeLau tied the game at 1 in the top of the 5th when Lance Graff led off with a single and advanced to second on BJ Gulick’s hit with one out.  Blair Ezekiel came in to pitch for Driving School at this point.  Graff advanced to 3rd and then scored on consecutive passed balls.  Ezekiel struck out the next two with a runner on 3rd base.  Driving School scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th with 2 out when Todd Moore reached first on a walk, advanced to second on Blair Ezekiel’s single and scored on Jason Hill’s game winning single.  Hill had both Driving School RBI’s and Moore scored both runs in the game.

Notes:  DeLau was ahead 8-5 after 5 innings, Munger scored 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th to tie the game and put it into extra innings.  Munger scored 3 runs in the top of the 8th starting the inning with a runner on 2nd as part of the international tie breaker with the help of 2 walks, a sacrifice fly and an error in the outfield.  DeLau scored one in the bottom of the 8th and with one out, runners at 2nd and 3rd, a ground ball to short got the second out of the inning at first, the runner from 3rd base scored and the first baseman threw to 3rd base to get the runner attempting to advance from 2nd to 3rd on the shortstops throw to first.  The runner at 3rd was called out and the game ended.

Game 14 (CHAMPIONSHIP GAME):  Frankenmuth Driving School – 2 (4 hits) over Munger Bulldogs – 0 (2 hits)

Driving School – Todd Moore had the game winning 2 run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning bringing in Joe Gorney who led off the inning with a single.  Brian Jammer singled in the 2nd and Nick Glass singled in the 5th inning.
Munger – Mike Gohsman singled in the 4th inning and Steve Roberts singled in the 6th inning.
Notes:  Munger had a runner reach 2nd base in the 3rd and 4th innings and had runners at 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 6th inning.  Ezekiel struck out the side in the top of the 7th to close out the win.  Driving School had just one baserunner through the first 4 innings before getting a runner to 2nd base in the 5th.

Klooster Memorial Invitational
Men's Class B-D Invitational

Charlevoix, Michigan
Friday-Sunday, July 15-17, 2005

2nd Annual memorial invitational in Bob Klooster’s memory who is Charlevoix’s only MASA Hall of Fame member.
Klooster Family Members were present to begin the tournament for a ceremonial first pitch, thrown by Justin Klooster and received by Pat Klooster (father of Justin and nephew of Bob Klooster).  Eloise Klooster (wife of Bob) was also on hand for a picture with three of their four daughters at the opening ceremonies and presented the awards to the champions and runners up.

**  Trophy Case wins 4 consecutive games on Sunday to come back from a 1st round loss on Friday night to win the tournament in 90 degree heat.

Notes:  Trophy Case scored 2 runs in the 1st inning on RBI’s by Scott Kelly and Tracy Boetsma, M-46ers scored 1 in the bottom of the 1st inning on an RBI by Terry Beougher, Trophy Case added one run in the top of the 3rd inning on Matt Hall’s double scoring Tracy Piehl who had singled to make it 3-1.  In the top of the 5th inning, M-46ers Sam Davenport singled with 2 outs and scored when Jason LaJoice hit an inside the park homerun to tie the game at 3-3.  In the top of the 6th inning for Trophy Case, Shawn Racignol singled, Ed Smith reached base on an error, Steve Hopkins reached base on an infield single to load the bases with 2 outs and Mike Piehl drove in Racignol and Smith with his single to make it a 5-3 score.  In the bottom of the 7th inning, the M-46ers loaded the bases with one out on consecutive singles by Jeremy Doan, Terry Beougher and Juston Davenport.  Doan scored on a wild pitch, advancing the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out to make the score 5-4.  VanderArk (Trophy Case pitcher) came back from a 3 balls, no strike count to get the strike out for the 2nd out of the inning.  The game ended on a ground out from short to first.  Matt Hall, Trophy Case regular centerfielder, was playing shortstop due to Kelly’s catching assignment in receiving VanderArk as the 90 degree heat had exhausted regular catcher Brad Hasse.  Hall fielded the ball cleanly in spite of the runner from 2nd base running in front of him and then first baseman, Tracy Piehl, was able to hold onto the snow-coned catch to make an exciting finish of a long and very hot come back day for Trophy Case who had to win 4 consecutive games on Sunday through the loser’s bracket.

Notes:  Bay St had a 7-4 lead going into the 7th inning, Cal’s scored 1 run and with 2 outs there was fielding error followed by a double and a homerun to give Cal’s an 8-7 lead.  Bay St went down in order in the bottom of the 7th.

Notes:  Cal’s had an 8-3 lead after 4 innings, Bay Street scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th to make it 8-5 and then scored 6 in the bottom of the 6th inning to make it 11-8.  For Bay Street in the bottom of the 6th, Dave Elliott led off with a solo homerun, the next two batters reached base on an error and a walk, Kuhlman sacrificed the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out, an error tied the game and then Malec hit his double with 2 outs to break the tie followed by RBI hits from Wilcox and Leist.  In the bottom of the 7th inning, Cal’s had runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 out when a homerun went just foul down the left field line before Potter recorded the strike out to end the game.
